Janet Jackson took to social media to thank her fans for getting her album ‘Control’, released 35 years ago, back to the top of the charts.
The record released in 1986 reached number one on the Apple Top 40 US Pop Album chart last week.
Fans of the 54-year-old rallied around to celebrate the anniversary of the album which features tracks including: ‘What Have You Done For Me Lately’ and ‘Nasty’.
In a video posted on Twitter, Jackson said, “I was at home just the other day by myself and I began to cry.
“I was crying because I was so thankful for all that God has blessed me with, all that he has given me and I’m so thankful for him being in my life, and I’m so thankful for all of you being in my life.
“You’re so special to me and I want to thank all of you for making Control number 1 once again after 35 years.
“I never, never in a million years, I would never think that this would happen. I really appreciate you and I love you so, so much. Thank you.”
‘Control’ originally went to number one on the Billboard 200 upon its release.
It broke the record for having the longest continuous run on the Hot 100 with singles from one album. It stayed on the Hot 100 for a staggering 65 consecutive weeks.
