Becoming Led Zeppelin documentary finally set to hit cinemas
Three years after it premiered in Venice
The long-gestating Led Zeppelin documentary film Becoming Led Zeppelin is finally set to hit cinema screens.
Directed by Bernard MacMahon, the officially-authorised Becoming Led Zeppelin documentary traces the formation and early years of the fabled rock British band.
A ‘work-in-progress’ version of Becoming Led Zeppelin premiered at the 78th Venice Film Festival to a rapturous reception, however the project has been on ice ever since.
Sony Classics Pictures have now announced they have acquired international rights to release the now completed cut of the film at cinemas. A release date is yet to be confirmed.
The newly tweaked version boasts “a brand-new sound mix (and) newly unearthed material from the archives of all four band members,” as per Sony’s statement.
There will also be additional Led Zeppelin performance footage from the Fillmore West, the Atlanta Pop Festival and the Texas Pop Festival in 1969.
“We have spent years designing this film to be experienced on the big screen with the best possible sound,” Bernard McMahon commented.
Producer/co-writer Allison McGourty adds: “Sony Pictures Classics are the perfect partners because they are true believers in the theatrical experience and are passionate about giving the millions of Led Zeppelin fans a chance to see and hear them on the greatest screens and sound systems in the world.”
