Coronation Street legend Julie Goodyear MBE diagnosed with dementia
Her husband has released a statement

Scott Brand, husband of Coronation Street legend Julie Goodyear MBE, has revealed that his wife is suffering from dementia.
In the statement released today (Wednesday 7th June), Scott said: 'My darling wife and I have had to come to terms with this heart-breaking diagnosis. Unfortunately, Julie has been suffering forgetfulness for some time and we have been seeking medical advice and assistance, but we now know that there is no hope of a reversal in the situation – and that her condition will get progressively, and perhaps speedily, worse.
‘We have taken the decision to publicly announce the diagnosis as Julie still loves visiting friends and eating out. Inevitably she is recognised, and fans love to meet her - and she them - but she can get confused particularly if she is tired. I hope people will understand.’
81-year-old Julie played the iconic role of Bet Lynch in long-running soap Coronation Street, appearing in 1,977 episodes between 1966-2003.
Julie was awarded an MBE for her services to television and drama in 1996.
By announcing news of her diagnosis, Julie and her husband Scott wish to highlight the wonderful work of hospices who do so much to support patients and families with dementia.
Julie remains a patron of Willow Wood Hospice in Greater Manchester.
