For the first time in five years, Sir Paul McCartney has released a solo album of new music. Taking to social media to promote the new project - which he began teasing in March - he posted a behind-the-scenes look at the album cover.

He began his caption: 'Behind the cover of 𝓣𝓱𝓮 𝓑𝓸𝔂𝓼 𝓸𝓯 𝓓𝓾𝓷𝓰𝓮𝓸𝓷 𝓛𝓪𝓷𝓮 🐦‍⬛', and tagged the creative artists involved in the artwork.

He added: 'Find yourself in with a chance of winning a beautiful, hand‑crafted screen print of the album cover by Kate Gibb. Pick up The Boys of Dungeon Lane from your local record shop, or enter through selected local competitions, to be included in the draw.'

The album is full of newly-inspired love songs, along with a collection of songs that are a look back to memories from the singer's life. The album is named after a road close to where Paul grew up, and in the record he returns to his roots, particularly in the lead song from the album, which was released on 26th March, called 'Days We Left Behind'.

He also posted stop-motion style video showcasing the artwork, including a sneak peek at what's inside the album, writing: 'Welcome to The Boys of Dungeon Lane… 🐦‍⬛'.

He added: 'This album is now yours. I just hope people can sit back, relax, and stick the vinyl on, or put on their headphones, play it on their phone, stream it, or whatever, and simply enjoy listening to it. That’s my aim: to bring something people can enjoy, and the more they enjoy it, the happier I am.'

What songs has he released from the album?

'Days We Left Behind'

On the day Sir Paul announced his album, he also released 'Days We Left Behind'. Speaking about the new song he said: "This is very much a memory song for me. The album title, 'The Boys of Dungeon Lane', comes from a lyric in this track.

"I was thinking just that, about the days I left behind and I do often wonder if I’m just writing about the past but then I think how can you write about anything else? It’s just a lot of memories of Liverpool.

"It involves a bit in the middle about John and Forthlin Road which is the street I used to live in. Dungeon Lane is near there. I used to live in a place called Speke which is quite working class. We didn’t have much at all but it didn’t matter because all the people were great and you didn’t notice you didn’t have much."

'Home To Us'

On 8th May 2026, Paul McCartney released his first duet with Ringo Starr called 'Home To Us'. At a special event with 50 fans, the singer opened up about writing the song saying: "Ringo went round to the studio and drummed a bit. I said to Andrew (Watt), we should make a track and send it to him. So this song is done totally with Ringo in mind.

"In writing the song I’m talking about where we came from. In common with a lot of people, you come from nothing and you build yourself up. Ringo was from the Dingle, and that was well hard. He said he used to get mugged coming home, because he worked."
