Details of funeral procession in Windsor revealed
The Queen's coffin will enter the castle via The Long Walk

Plans have been revealed for the Procession of Her Majesty’s Coffin in Windsor and the Committal Service at St George’s Chapel on Monday, 19 September 2022.
The Procession to Windsor Castle along The Long Walk will start at 3.10pm and will include members of the Armed Forces, emergency services and Her Majesty’s personal staff, with the Committal Service at 4pm.
The Procession will take in Albert Road and The Long Walk. There will be no ceremonial move through Windsor town centre.
Councillor Andrew Johnson, the leader of the council, said:
“We are honoured and humbled that Her Majesty’s Coffin will process down The Long Walk. We are also honoured that the Committal Service for Her Majesty The Queen will be taking place in our borough at Windsor Castle on Monday, following the State Funeral in Westminster Abbey.
“The Queen saw Windsor as her home, and we’re sure that many people from the town, and further afield, will want to come and pay their respects before Her Majesty is laid to rest.
“We’re working closely with a range of partners, including the Royal Household, Her Majesty’s Armed Forces, emergency services, public transport companies and others to ensure the safe and smooth running of this historic event. We have tried and tested plans in place to ensure that crowds are managed appropriately and with dignity and respect.”
Where to watch on the day
The Procession will take in Albert Road and The Long Walk. There will be no ceremonial move through Windsor town centre.
There will be public viewing areas on The Long Walk, along with water stations, toilets, catering and waste facilities, along with viewing screens where people will be able to watch the service at Westminster Abbey, prior to the Committal Service.
A number of accessible and disabled viewing areas for the event have been provided at set locations along The Long Walk. These areas will be clearly marked with signage and will be supported by stewards wearing purple high-visibility jackets.
These disabled viewing spaces are available on a first come, first served basis. Support will be provided where possible for anyone who cannot access these areas, but this will be limited.
Folding chairs and handheld umbrellas will be permitted, however gazebos and tents are not allowed on The Long Walk to ensure that as many people as possible can attend and see.

Roads and car parks in Windsor are very busy and becoming increasingly so.
If you’re planning to come to Windsor, please expect significant travel delays, use public transport if possible, and if driving then make sure you know where you’re going to park before setting off early.

Rail operators will providing extra passenger capacity on services to and from Windsor. Please check before you travel as these may be subject to delays.
Temporary road closures
A number of temporary road closures will be in place on Monday 19 September in order to facilitate the safe running of the day.

In addition, in preparation for the day, there will be a number of road closures in place on Saturday 17 September from midnight until 7am.
Extra parking
All council-owned public car parks, except for Home Park, are currently open but have very limited availability. Visitors are advised to use public transport wherever possible.
All council car parks have provision for accessible parking, but please be advised that spaces in council car parks will be limited and the town centre will be very busy.
However, additional parking is currently available outside of Windsor town centre which is being provided by Windsor Racecourse for those wanting to park and walk into Windsor. Parking is £12, card payment only on arrival. The racecourse is located in Maidenhead Road, Windsor SL4 5EZ. The racecourse is 1.5 miles from Windsor town centre with a 30-minute walk along the River Thames and through Windsor to the designated spectator areas on the Long Walk.
From Friday 16 September to Monday 19 September, there will be an additional Park and Walk car park available at the Review Ground Car Park. This is open from 6am until 10pm and will be free on Friday. Parking is £20 per vehicle on Saturday, Sunday and Monday payable via the Ringo App. On Monday, however, parking should pre-booked where possible. Please visit https://tickets.windsor.gov.uk/sales/transport-and-passes/windsor-committal-service-park/review-ground-parking. Access to the Review Ground Car Park is from the A332, SL4 2BD. This park and walk car park is approximately a 20-minute walk from Windsor town centre. Walking routes will be signposted, but the ground may be uneven in parts. On Monday, Blue Badge holders are exempt from charges at the Review Ground Car Park, and a limited number of DDA compliant buggies will be available to transport people with physical and mobility impairment to the designated viewing areas.
Floral tributes
If you are visiting Windsor to leave a floral tribute to Her Majesty The Queen, please ensure that you remove any plastic packaging from the flowers and leave them outside Cambridge Gate at the top of The Long Walk, as directed by stewards.
As per Royal Household arrangements, the flowers are brought inside the Castle every evening, and placed on the Castle Chapter grass on the south side of St George’s Chapel and Cambridge Drive.
