Following the success of the first series of The Traitors last year, and the addition of The Traitors US soon after, the UK version was quickly recommissioned for a second series, and it kept us all entertained throughout January 2024.

With bosses confirming more series will air this year in the form of International versions we take a look back at the second series of The Traitors with host Claudia Winkleman, as the winner was revealed during the final on Friday 26th January.

Who won The Traitors series 2?

After being a Traitor since the very first episode, contestant Harry Clark won the second series during the nail-biting final on Friday 26th January, picking up a huge £95,150.

Viewers watched in disbelief as Mollie started to write Harry's name down for banishment, before switching to Jaz.

Speaking about his victory, British army engineer Harry told BBC Breakfast: "My legs are shaking. I just won £95,000. I underestimated this massively, you come here and there's 22 amazing people, and from the off I've been a traitor.

"I've had enough of being naughty and being bad, because that was next level. I didn't know I could lie that well and keep it up.

"The first couple of days I was struggling, because you're lying to people and building relationships out of a lie. It was just mad."

When was the final?

The final took place on Friday 26th January at 9pm, with bosses confirming it had been extended to a 70-minute episode.

Who was in the final?

Five contestants made it to the final, including Andrew, Evie, Harry, Jaz and Mollie.

Was there a second series of The Traitors?

There sure was!

The BBC Press Office shared the exciting news in February 2023, with a video of the show's host Claudia Winkleman saying: "Can you spot a liar? Can you betray those around you? How would you fare at the Round Table? What I'm asking is, would you like to play?"

Confirming the news in their tweet they said: '🏰 The Traitors series two is OFFICIALLY coming! Think you could be the next Maddy Marple? Or go totally undetected in a glorious hooded cloak with @ClaudiaWinkle?'.

Kalpna Patel-Knight who is the Head of Entertainment at the BBC, also said: "Last year’s ambitious and bingeable hit The Traitors with Claudia Winkleman is coming back with the brilliant team at Studio Lambert set to bring viewers another magnificent series full of drama and suspense. We can certainly expect even more deceit and psychological games for the Traitors and Faithfuls."

Bosses released the brand new trailer on Boxing Day, teasing the series two cast.

When did it start?

After bosses teased series two is 'coming soon' in November, on Tuesday 5th December they revealed series two would land on Wednesday 3rd January 2024.

Sharing a video on social media featuring host Claudia wearing the infamous cloak, the post read: 'It's coming...🤫 #TheTraitors #iPlayer'. (sic)

Speaking ahead of the series, Claudia revealed that there will be some changes in store. She said: "I think I'm allowed to say the armoury has gone and now there's a kitchen. That's it!"

Where was it filmed?

Series one and two of The Traitors was filmed at Ardross Castle in Scotland! The castle is 25 miles north of Inverness.

Who hosts The Traitors?

The lovely Claudia Winkleman hosts the popular reality show.

Speaking about the return of The Traitors, Claudia said: "I can’t wait to go back to the castle to watch people play the greatest game on television. I’m knitting a high funnel sweater immediately."

Speaking about his experience of working with Claudia, series one star Wilf Webster told Digital Spy: "She was really comforting during the times that I struggled. Really comforting. There were parts where I didn't want to do it anymore.

"You see in an episode, where she comes in and asks, 'Why did you do that?', and it was literally like someone stabbing me in the heart when she said that and I just broke down and she was so supportive at that point. She was amazing and you can tell she just wants everyone to win. She was really supportive, she did give us tips in challenges."

Although The Traitors wouldn't be the same without Claudia, she actually originally turned the hosting role down.

Speaking on the Dish podcast, Claudia told Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett that she nearly missed out on being a part of the show, admitting she turned it down when she was asked three or four years ago,

She said: “I was like, ‘I’m really sorry I can’t go to Scotland for three and a half weeks, but thank you so much for thinking of me.

“‘And why don’t you ask the following people? Thank you, bye’.”

Claudia changed her mind the production team send her recordings of the Dutch version, with the host admitting she binged all episodes in one sitting.

After she finished the series, she said she texted her BBC boss to say: “I’ll book my own train … I’m coming. I’m going to Inverness.”
