Where did it come in the charts?

'What Ifs & Maybes' debuted at Number 1 in the UK, and has been certified Gold by the BPI with 100,000 sales.

Did he go on tour?

He certainly did! Tom went on the 'What Ifs and Maybes Tour' in March 2023, performing in Birmingham, Cardiff, Leeds, Newcastle, Glasgow, Nottingham, Manchester, Brighton, Plymouth and London.

When did Tom Grennan announce the album?

Tom announced the amazing news of a fresh album in September 2022. He posted an energetic video on Instagram where he says: "You're probably thinking 'what the hell is this?' and to be honest with you so am I. But guess what? I've got an album coming and it's called 'What Ifs & Maybes'. And guess what else? I'm going on tour."

What does 'What Ifs & Maybes' mean?

Speaking about the album, Tom said: "I've called my new album 'What Ifs & Maybes'. It's about going with your gut, not your head, because you never know what's going to happen. I'm not afraid to jump into the unknown - because it's exciting! It's about rolling the dice and living your best life with nothing to lose.

"I'm in a new creative space, and I know I'm finally the artist I want to be. I'm so buzzing for these shows, my biggest gigs to date. I can't wait to get out and play these new songs to everyone. Let's go!"

He added to Belgian publication Enfnts Terribles in December 2022 that the record was "all about spontaneity: "I’m in a place in my life where if I didn’t do this thing, then I wouldn’t be here now. It’s all about taking a risk and putting yourself out there to try and find a little answer."

Describing it as something of an antidote to the COVID lockdowns of the previous years, Tom said: "It’s fun and uplifting. When you listen to it, you want to dance and kind of want to forget about the past couple of years that we all experienced. I want people to listen to the music and walk through the door feeling safe in a place of unity where it doesn’t matter who or what you are."

He explained that the concept of the album was inspired by his then-new relationship with Danniella Carraturo, whom he married in May 2024, and the pair welcomed their first child together in 2025.

"My last album was a breakup album, so lyrically, 'What Ifs & Maybes' is me saying that I took a risk, and I’ve jumped into the deep end," he said. "I went into the unknown and found something unreal. Lyrically, it’s obviously about that and not about breaking up with someone."

When was 'What Ifs & Maybes' released?

It was released on 16th June 2023.

When did he record it?

Tom spoke to us in May 2021 - just before COVID-19 rules were slightly relaxed - and he confirmed he was in the studio working on the album, two months after the release of his Number 1 second album 'Evering Road' in March 2021.

He said: "I'm writing and riding the wave that I'm on at the moment. It's been a pretty crazy few months from getting a Number 1 record to 'A Little Bit of Love' blowing up. I think I'm in the eye of the storm."

He added: "We can't gig, we can't go out and do promotion, so I'm watching from my house which is a pretty strange thing. But it is nice to be back in the studio and be back with people again. I feel very creative at the moment."

Tom said: "I finished 'Evering Road' before the lockdown so I had a year off, but it allowed me to breathe and find what my demons really were. I moved back with my mum and dad and sorted both my mental and physical health out, it’s been a blessing disguise. I feel guilty saying that because so many people have gone through it really bad, but for me it’s been a time that I needed.

"I can’t take anything for granted, no-one can, we’ve learnt that in this time. This music won’t last forever so I’m going to ride it, have fun and see what happens."

Moving back in with your parents is tough for anyone, but Tom insisted he enjoyed the experience: "We're a pretty tight unit anyway, but I moved out when I was 18 and my brother is five years younger, so I was moving back in with a young man. He has his own routines and I remember I left toothpaste on the sink and he wasn't in to that at all!

"I'm not living there anymore but it was great for the time. I never thought I'd get to do that again so it was really nice."

"It triggered memories for me of the loss of my cousin and best friend Alan when I was just a teenager, it broke so many of us. The song unravelled from me quite quickly. It was cathartic on many levels, thoughts of loss and heartbreak, dealing with the grief of death, or the breakdown of a relationship or friendship.
"These are all things that seem to have dominated my life in recent years, but sadly never get any easier to navigate. I'm grateful that the passing of time allows us to look back and remember the good times."
