What did Sam Smith say when they released 'Gloria'?
Sam told their fans in a statement that 'Gloria' was dedicated to them. They wrote: 'Dearest Sailors,
'It feels like I’ve been working my whole life for this album release, a chance to showcase to you my artistry and all that inspires me to do what I do. The force, however that inspires me more than anything in this world, is you. Humans are the greatest source of inspiration for all artists, I believe.
'I watch you, my friends, my family and myself; I write stories that I hope will help you and be your friend in your loneliest hours but also your happiest hours, too. Sailors, you have stuck with me through every challenge that comes with growing up, all the life I’ve lived these past 10 years. I am eternally thankful to you. I work everyday for you, striving to make you proud and move you.
'Gloria is dedicated to you. I love you all. But it’s deeper than that. Always,
'Sam x GLORIA IS OUT NOW 💛💛💛'.

What has Sam said about their new album?

"I was not gonna write a heartbreak album. A challenge that was huge! I wanted this to be the opposite. When I was a kid, just walking out of the house, I needed armour. Rihanna, Robyn, Beyoncé, they were my armour. And I feel like 'Gloria' is the album I needed that I never had."
Sam went on to say: "There’s a huge female influence on 'Gloria'. I made sure the rooms I was in had that balance. Which was wonderful. Because it’s been very male-heavy in my career in terms of co-writers and producers."
Who is Gloria?
Gloria is not a person according to a press release, it is a bristling, enigmatic force which Sam has christened Gloria. 'Gloria is the sound of constricting shackles crashing to the floor, of boundaries joyfully breached, of a still-searching talent discovering what it means to be truly free – to be in touch with their innermost self,' it explains.
