Lewis Capaldi had an absolutely fantastic 2019 - his debut album 'Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent' sat at Number 1 in the UK charts for a whopping six weeks, and he sold out his tour in record time.

He was also set to support his friend One Direction star Niall Horan on his North America 'Nice To Meet Ya' Tour before it was cancelled due to the global pandemic - and a collaboration between the pals could be on the cards!

However, he's also well-known as a very down to earth sort of chap, and fame hasn't gone to his head. When we caught up with him back in 2019, he spoke about still living at home with his parents.

Speaking backstage in Birmingham, Lewis said: "I still live with my mum and dad, Carole and Mark, I always say just my mum and my dad gets really angry saying 'Do I not count?'. I’m never really there, rent free, my mum does all my washing."

So does he get told off?

"I’m very well-behaved!" Before jokingly adding: "Except for all the street fights I get in…"

With his new-found fame, Lewis revealed that he does get recognised, joking: "You need to know your times to not get mobbed, 9am the pub is empty, I guess I’m going to have to go then!"

In 2022 however, Lewis revealed in an interview on the Jonathan Ross show that he has finally taken the plunge and moved out on his own - joking that it's been "horrible". He explained that Ed Sheeran had recommended a property: "He sent me this email - we became quite close over lockdown - and said, ‘This place looks brilliant.’

"It looked beautiful, sprawling hills, farmhouse aesthetic... I moved there and I was blinded by the outside of it. The interior wasn’t up to scratch, I thought I could change that," before adding that after he moved in, he discovered it was... Well, not very nice!

"It smelt of smoke and wet dog, there was a bag of live frogs in the cupboard! So I’ve moved out. I have found another house in Glasgow. It’s lovely and there are no live swampy creatures of any kind in any of the cupboards and believe me I checked."

Lewis Capaldi award nominations

We also asked Lewis what it's live to be nominated for awards, he joked, "I got into the music, not for the awards, the adoration and the fame… I got in it for the money."

Getting serious, he added, "I try not to think about it, because then you don’t want to get disappointed.

"I want to be like Leo, before he won the Oscar. I’d like to be nominated for everything but then never win anything. Because then you always become close, it’s like consistently he’s nominated.”
