Miley Cyrus dropped her eighth album 'Endless Summer Vacation' — featuring Number 1 hit 'Flowers' — back in March 2023. It came two years after her seventh album 'Plastic Hearts'.

Want to know more about 'Endless Summer Vacation' — including the meaning behind the title, and who she worked with on it? We take a deep dive into the record, which also includes singles 'Jaded' and 'River'...

When was 'Endless Summer Vacation' released?

Miley's eighth album 'Endless Summer Vacation' was released on 10th March 2023. On the day of release, the singer shared a clip from the music video for her song 'River', telling her fans: 'ENDLESS SUMMER VACATION + RIVER VIDEO OUT NOW'.

What is the meaning behind the title?

'Endless Summer Vacation' is filled with feel-good summer tunes, so it's no surprise the album title reflects the vibe of the Californian sunshine.

Miley is reported to have said she wanted to create a summer getaway feel in all of the album's promotional material. And frankly we agree with her logic — it's the perfect soundtrack to any sunny roadtrip, or day on the beach.

Miley teased album lyrics with fans

Before the release of her album, Miley surprised fans with a first look at some new lyrics from her album.

Fan accounts shared photos of postcards they'd received along with lyrics from songs on her upcoming album.

One postcard read: 'I'm driving around town in a beat up old Mercedes You think I'm crazy you might be right.' The card was then signed: 'XO MC'. We now know these lyrics are from the first verse of Miley's track 'Thousand Miles'.

In another tweet, a fan account shared another postcard which showed the iconic photo of Miley hanging from a trapeze with the words: 'Endless Summer Vacation, make it last 'til we die...', this time signed: 'XOXO Miley'. These lyrics are from Miley's song 'Rose Colored Lenses'.

A further fan took to Twitter (now X) to share their postcard from the pop star which read: 'Am I stranded on an island or have I landed in paradise', signed 'XO MC'. This one's from 'Island'.

How did she announce the album?

In January 2023, Miley shared a couple of posts about the record. She posted a video captioned with the album's title and release date: 'ENDLESS SUMMER VACATION. THE ALBUM. MARCH 10.'

The video showed Miley next to a pool, as a handheld camera cuts between the singer, the pool and palm trees, all accompanied by a synth wave track, while Miley can be heard talking over it, saying: "We met each other on the neon dingy, past the manta-rays and palm trees, glowing creatures beamed down from great heights, electric eels and red venom.

"In the sky, we could see the riders on horseback, on comets coming toward us kicking up with laughter. My friend Big Twitchy rode the boat to the light, surfed the north break, we danced until there was nothing left, just me and Twitchy, cos that's all we knew..."

Fans and celebrities commented on Miley's post, with Kylie Minogue saying '😝', and MTV writing: 'it's the year of miley YET AGAIN'. (sic)

Other fans wrote: 'ALBUM OF THE YEAR', and: 'SO READY 👏👏👏'.

Miley then followed her first post with a photo of herself hanging from a trapeze wearing a black unitard, stilettos and sunglasses, with a backdrop of a deep blue sky. The image was our first opportunity to see the album's cover artwork.

Where did it come in the charts?

'Endless Summer Vacation' went to Number 1 in the UK and Number 3 over in the US. It's since been certified Gold here.
