Sunshine & showers expected this bank holiday weekend
This bank holiday weekend will see a shift in the weather, with many areas seeing rain or showers and more unsettled conditions.
We have already had more sunshine this spring than the whole of summer last year, but it looks like grey skies are on the way.
Deputy Chief Meteorologist David Oliver explains: “We’ll see a change in conditions this weekend as weather systems move in from the Atlantic. These will bring rain and windier conditions from the west later Friday, which will spread across the whole of the UK on Saturday.
"Some heavy rain is expected, especially in the northwest later on Saturday when winds will also strengthen, bringing a risk of coastal gales in the north.
“Blustery showers are expected on Sunday, which will be heaviest and most frequent in the northwest.

Today: Patchy mist or fog will quickly clear this morning to leave a dry day with plenty of sunshine. It will feel warm with winds remaining light. Maximum temperature 22 °C.
Tonight: It will be a dry night with clear periods and a few mist and fog patches forming later. A chilly night with light winds. Minimum temperature 3 °C.
Thursday: Another dry day with plenty of sunshine and any early mist patches soon dispersing. Light northeasterly winds. Maximum temperature 19 °C.
Outlook for Friday to Sunday: Dry, bright Friday morning, then cloudy with rain later in day and overnight. Bright spells and showers over weekend, showers becoming more frequent during Sunday with strengthening southwest winds.
