Vigils are taking place across the island of Ireland today in memory of two men murdered in their own homes in Sligo this week, in suspected homophobic attacks.

42 year old Aidan Moffitt's body was found at his home on Monday night, while the body of 58 year old Michael Snee was found at his home the following night.

Gardaí say both men suffered 'significant injuries'.

Belfast, Derry, and Dublin are among the locations taking part in vigils this evening.

A notice for the vigil in the North West said, "Please join us to remember their lives and call for an end to violence against the LGBTQIA+ community".

Yesterday 22-year-old Yousef Palani of Markievicz Heights in Sligo appeared in court charged with the murder of the two men, and the assault of a third man.

He’s been remanded in custody.
