A mother who lost her son in a one punch attack is asking people to think twice about the consequences before throwing a punch.

Ann Gamble spoke to Downtown Radio & Cool FM as part of our series Think Twice.

It intends to create awareness of the crime and how much of a ripple effect it can have.

Annā€™s Story

Peter Gamble was just 35 years old when he died as a result of one punch to his head.

The father of one lay for 5 hours before an ambulance was called, but he was sadly pronounced dead by ambulance staff.

Ann says to lose a child in any circumstance is awful, but to lose them in this way makes it harder to accept.

She said: ā€œI came down the stairs and I can remember sitting here ā€“ the police officer stood over there, and I canā€™t even remember speaking to him. I was probably numb, shocked, I just couldnā€™t take it all it, I thought I was still dreaming, that it was all a terrible dream.

ā€œI canā€™t remember that first day hardly at all. It was as if you were in a dream, you know that it is true but you just canā€™t accept it.

ā€œItā€™s just that terrible feeling of loss and you canā€™t understand why it has happened.ā€

One of the hardest things Ann has to deal with is wondering what Peter would have made of himself or what he would have become.

ā€œI live with Peter in my mind every day. I sometimes do get very cross when I think about what happened to him.

ā€œHe missed out on his daughterā€™s life, his grandchildren, everything, just because of one man and one punch.ā€
