Yellow weather warning in place for heavy rain this Friday

Heavy rain and strong, gusty winds are expected

Heavy rain is likely to cause some disruption and flooding in a few places across Northern Ireland on Friday.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning of rain, from midnight to 11am on Friday 28th October.

Rain is expected to sweep across Northern Ireland during the early hours of Friday morning, clearing eastwards by late morning.

Within this, narrow bands of heavy rain are likely to develop and where these become temporarily slow-moving, 20-30 mm, perhaps 40 mm of rain could fall in 2-3 hours.

The Met Office has also warned that heavy rain is expected to be accompanied by some strong, gusty winds.

What to expect:

  • Flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely
  • Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer
  • Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer

Northern Ireland's five-day weather forecast:

Today: Some early brightness possible around the north coast. Otherwise a cloudy day with outbreaks of rain and drizzle, occasional heavy. Misty at times around the Irish Sea coast. Another mild day. Maximum temperature 16 °C.

Tonight: Becoming drier this evening before widespread rain spreads east through the night, occasionally heavy. Strong south to southeasterly winds developing along the east coast. Mild. Minimum temperature 11 °C.

Friday: Cloud and rain clearing away through the morning to leave a mainly dry and bright afternoon. Mild. Maximum temperature 15 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday: Cloud and rain on Saturday morning, turning drier in the afternoon. A few showers on Sunday, then mainly dry on Monday. Remaining mild.
