Wind warning issued for Northern Ireland this weekend

Strong and gusty southerly winds may cause disruption across the east of Northern Ireland this weekend.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for strong wind, it will be in place Friday 21st February from 6am to 10am.

What to expect:

⚠️ Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely

⛔️ It’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves

⚠️ Probably some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer

⛔️ Some short term loss of power and other services is possible

⚠️ Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely

Northern Ireland's five-day forecast:

Today: This morning will be cloudy with rain spreading northeast for a time. Dry and somewhat brighter for a time this afternoon before further rain spreads into the southwest later. Much milder than of late. Maximum temperature 9 °C.

Tonight: Cloudy this evening with rain spreading northeast across all areas for a time. Then staying cloudy with a few showers overnight. Windy with gales along the north and east coast. Minimum temperature 8 °C.

Thursday: Cloudy start with some rain. Then brightening up with a few showers for the rest of the day. Brisk southwesterly winds. Maximum temperature 10 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday: Wet and windy on Friday, drier in the evening. Bright on Saturday with a few showers. Further wind and rain on Sunday.
