Armagh is named best city in the UK to raise a family

A recent survey carried out by the clothing retailer GAP has revealed that the best place in the UK to bring up a family is in the Orchard County, Armagh.
Each UK city was analysed by the number of primary schools, parks, hospitals and average birth rate.
Each areas crime rate was also taken into consideration. Armagh came out on top, with Wells in Somerset quite close behind.
Newry came in at number 35, Derry/Londonderry was 55th, Belfast ranked 60th on the list with Lisburn close behind at 62.
GAP have revealed the best cities to raise a family are:
- Armagh, Northern Ireland
- Wells, Somerset
- Bangor, Wales
- Westminster, London
- Chichester, West Sussex
The Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Council are competing for the coveted title of UK City of Culture 2025.
The UK City of Culture is a competition run by the Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport every four years.
The Lord Mayor of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon, Alderman Glenn Barr said:
"Armagh City and the wider borough is proud of its heritage and has been a centre of cultural and creative expression for over 7,500 years, provoking thought and keeping traditions alive for future generations. Our borough is famous for its literature, music, visual arts, sports, science, orchards and rich home-grown produce, all of which are now ripe for sharing on an international stage.
"The UK City of Culture 2025 title would help spark a new, dynamic and broad-reaching catalyst for positive change for the people and place of Armagh City, this borough, and indeed all of Northern Ireland."
