Netflix has shared an exciting teaser video
Last updated 15th Mar 2022
Since the last season of The Umbrella Academy came out in July 2021, fans have eagerly been anticipating the release of the third season to see how the action-packed story continues. As we get closer to the new season airing, Netflix has shared a few exciting updates on the upcoming season.
Netflix has now confirmed that the new season will start on 22nd June and will include 10 episodes. The news came from a Twitter post which also included an exciting teaser video. The clip shows The Umbrella Academy siblings facing off against the Sparrow Academy, with the message 'The Sparrows Have Landed'.
In February, photos were posted on the official Instagram account for the show, with the caption: 'take cover 🐦'. The photos show each of The Umbrella Academy siblings underneath a tattered umbrella with the shadow of what we can assume are sparrows surrounding them.
This update was dropped on the three-year-anniversary of the show, which first launched back in 2019, and fans flooded the comments to share how excited they are, as well as how keen they are for more information, with many people asking for a full trailer to be released.
Following on from the storyline of time travel in season two, the upcoming episodes will see the Umbrella Academy members Luther (Tom Hopper), Diego (David Castañeda), Allison (Emmy Raver-Lampman), Klaus (Robert Sheehan), Five (Aidan Gallagher) and Vanya (Elliot Page) return to the present day to face an alternative reality.
We got a glimpse of this alternative universe in the last episode of season two, when the gang made it back from their misadventures in the 1960s. It's clear that although they're back in the right time, something is off, as The Umbrella Academy is now The Sparrow Academy and their adoptive father Reginald (Colm Feore) is still alive.
The updates from Netflix have given more insight into The Sparrow Academy and the seven new characters, with another Instagram post showing photos of the new faces with a caption that simply says: 'new year. new family'.
Showrunner Steve Blackman spoke about the new series and said: "What we love is we're doing a wilder, bigger, zanier, season than ever before. I think our emotional stories between this dysfunctional family, we're just building it up even more.
"There's some very big surprises with the family this year. There are some amazing changes that people will love to sort of dig into, and there's a lot of growth for this family this year in a way that people are just not going to expect.
"I can give you absolutely no hint, but I tell you that we have tonnes of Easter eggs. We love putting Easter eggs in for our fans, and there's more Easter eggs than ever this year than our previous seasons."
In August 2021, it was revealed that filming for season three had wrapped and a sweet video was shared of the cast talking about their last day on the set.
It seems like we have a lot to look forward to in season three! Seasons one and two of The Umbrella Academy are available to watch on Netflix.
