10 reasons why we loved Gossip Girl
From the fashion to the complex relationships, Gossip Girl had it all
Last updated 31st Aug 2017
A decade on from the premiere of Gossip Girl and we’re still just as obsessed with the young adults from the Upper East Side.
We’ve rounded up ten reasons that made Gossip Girl so addictive.
WARNING: THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS A LOT OF SPOILERS!!!
1. Blair and Chuck’s on-again, off-again relationship
The moment that Blair (Leighton Meester) asked Chuck (Ed Westwick) to confess his feelings is permanently scarred in our brains.
Blair made it so easy for him, merely asking Chuck to utter the three words and she would stay with him.
Ultimately Chuck didn’t have the capacity and let her go. Thankfully these two made it work in the end.
2. The ultimate villian
In our opinion, Georgina Sparks (Michelle Trachtenberg) was one of the best modern-day villains on TV.
During her stint on the series, Georgina goes from scheming siren, to a Bible-loving Christian and back again.
This doesn’t last long and she is up to her old tricks once again when she tricks Dan (Penn Badgley) into thinking that he is the father of her child, Milo.
But, it turned out that Milo’s biological father was actually a Russian man who Georgina had a fling with.
Strangely enough Georgina calmed down by the end of Gossip Girl and became friendly with the whole gang which was a slight let down.
3. Darling Dorota
Blair’s faithful maid Dorota (Zuzanna Szadkowski) was her best friend, guardian angel and mother figure all rolled into one.
Whilst she seemed to be a big softie, she was actually fiercely protective and strong when needed. We all wished we had a Dorota in our lives.
4. All of the clothes
It would remiss to speak about Gossip Girl and not mention the insanely beautiful wardrobe that was featured in the series.
Serena (Blake Lively) and Blair’s style always looked effortlessly put together. And the plethora of fancy events that the gang attended meant that they were dolled up most of the time.
We can only dream of such a wardrobe.
5. The gentlemen
Sure, the series revolved mostly around Blair and Serena, but the men of the show were not terrible to look at.
Sure, Dan, Nate (Chace Crawford) and Chuck all did some questionable things, but aside from that, they were pretty to look at.
6. Rufus and Lily
This couple had their fair share of ups and downs (and ultimately didn’t end up together) but their relationship made a huge impact on the series.
In the Gossip Girl world where people stuck to their classes, Rufus (Matthew Settle) and Lily (Kelly Rutherford) proved that it didn’t matter where you were born or how much money you were worth.
7. The reveal of Gossip Girl
Yep, we couldn’t believe it when it was revealed that Dan Humphrey was Gossip Girl.
It was the ending that we loved to hate. How could it possibly be him?!
And how could everyone just forgive him like they did? Either way, it was a quirky ending to the series.
8. Blair and Chuck’s happily ever after
We loved Chuck and Blair’s rocky relationship but we couldn’t have been happier that the couple actually achieved.
In the final episode we flashed forward five years to witness the wedding of Chuck and Blair, who also had a son called Henry.
9. Jenny and Eric
As far as friendships go, Jenny (Taylor Momsen) and Eric (Connor Paolo) had some strained times.
But despite Jenny’s behaviour (it was always her creating the drama!) the pair remained tight.
In the Gossip Girl world where everyone’s behaviour was pretty ruthless, this was something to be admired.
10. XOXO Gossip Girl
Probably the most recognisable part of the series is its trademark tagline ‘XOXO Gossip Girl’.
Whoever wrote that line was pure genius, as it is still stuck in our heads 10 years later.
Coupled with Kristen Bell’s voiceover, it’s something we won’t ever get over.
BRB, just going to re-watch all six seasons!
