Fans now know who he's playing in the upcoming film

Author: Emma Dodds and Georgie HollandPublished 12 hours ago

Peaky Blinders fans have been eagerly awaiting the upcoming Peaky Blinders film, which will see Cillian Murphy reprise his infamous role - especially with the news that the "next generation" series is on the way.

And we can all breathe a sigh of relief as show bosses and Netflix have released the incredibly dramatic and tense full-length trailer for the film, which it's thought will wrap up Tommy Shelby's storyline after the original six seasons... AND revealed Barry Keoghan's character.

Who is Barry Keoghan playing in the Peaky Blinders film?

Ever since his casting was confirmed back in August 2024, fans have been eager to find out who Barry Keoghan is playing in the Peaky Blinders film, The Immortal Man. Thankfully, this was confirmed on social media by film bosses, who revealed that Barry is taking over the role of Duke Shelby, Tommy's illegitimate son, from Conrad Khan, who played Duke in season six.

This was confirmed by two social media posts - the first of which shows Barry and Conrad in a split picture alongside each other with the caption: 'The boy became a man.'

The second was a short clip featuring Barry in character with the caption: 'It's Duke Shelby's time to take the crown.'

Is Barry Keoghan playing Tommy's son Charlie?

No, he isn't. After the announcement that he would be playing Duke, there was a little confusion in the social media comments with fans asking whether Duke and Tommy's son Charles (or Charlie) were the same person - but they're not.

Charles is Tommy's legitimate son with his former wife Grace (played by Annabelle Wallis) who was murdered in season three. Duke is Tommy's illegitimate son who he met in season six, who was born before Tommy went off to war.

Is there a trailer?

Yes, there is! The team released the full-length trailer in February 2026, giving us our first glimpse of Tommy as an older man, along with Stephen Graham and Rebecca Ferguson in character.

We also get to see Barry Keoghan in full Peaky gear - and that's a pretty impressive West Midlands accent that the native Irishman has pulled off! Take a look:

The first teaser trailer was released on Christmas Eve 2025, you can watch it below.

Peaky Blinders film: First look pictures

In December 2025, Peaky Blinders bosses also shared some first look pictures to their Instagram profile, showing Cillian Murphy, Rebecca Ferguson and Barry Keoghan in situ as their characters, followed up with more snaps a few weeks later of Tim Roth, Stephen Graham, Sophie Rundle and Jay Lycurgo.

They shared the first set of photos alongside the caption: 'Cillian Murphy, Barry Keoghan and Rebecca Ferguson star in Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man. In select cinemas 6 March and Netflix 20 March 2026.'

Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby in The Immortal Man

Cillian Murphy can be seen in character as Tommy Shelby, looking slightly worse for wear with a cut on his face and dirt on his clothes, riding on a horse through a group of people who are holding their hands up to him in apparent reverence.

Rebecca Ferguson in The Immortal Man

We can also see Rebecca Ferguson in her as-yet-unnamed role staring out into the distance nonchalantly while an explosion goes off nearby as she remains unfazed.

Barry Keoghan in The Immortal Man

We can also see Barry Keoghan leading a gang of men, all wearing the signature Peaky Blinders hat, in a shot that certainly evokes photos of Tommy from the early days of Peaky Blinders.

Tim Roth in The Immortal Man

Although he's in a currently unnamed role, we know that Tim Roth is appearing in the upcoming film. Looking at this photo, it looks as though Tim might be taking on a role as some sort of official - maybe a police officer or investigator.

Stephen Graham as Hayden Stagg in The Immortal Man

We know Stephen Graham is returning as Hayden Stagg, having appeared in two episodes of season six as the union leader of the factory in Liverpool - so it will be interesting to see how he fits into the follow-up story.

Jay Lycurgo in The Immortal Man

We don't know which role Jay Lycurgo is taking on for The Immortal Man, but given his attire it looks as though he could be a younger member of the Peaky Blinders gang.

Sophie Rundle as Ada Thorne in The Immortal Man

Fans were utterly thrilled to learn that Sophie Rundle would be returning for The Immortal Man, as Ada Shelby/Thorne is certainly a fan-favourite character.

Rebecca Ferguson in The Immortal Man

Again, we don't know anything about Rebecca Ferguson's role in the film, but it's good to say the old Garrison Pub will be an integral location in The Immortal Man.

The Immortal Man

Could this be a snap of a lonely Tommy Shelby, having retreated from his former life?

Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby in The Immortal Man

...Although this one shows him returned to his former glory!

The Immortal Man

A very atmospheric shot of a steam train was also released.

When does the Peaky Blinders film come out?

It's finally been confirmed that the film will come out in select cinemas on 6th March 2026, and later be available to stream on Netflix from 20th March 2026. Taking to Instagram, the official Peaky Blinders page confirmed the news alongside the caption: 'The legendary gypsy gangster Tommy Shelby returns in Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man.'

Who is in the cast of the Peaky Blinders film?

Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby

Cillian Murphy will be reprising his role as everyone's favourite anti-hero, Tommy Shelby. Having discovered that his terminal diagnosis was a fake ploy at the hands of Oswald Mosley, the film will tie up all loose ends and - no doubt - see Tommy wreak havoc on the fascist MP.

Of rejoining the Peaky cast, Cillian said: "It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn't finished with me... It is very gratifying to be recollaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders. This is one for the fans."

Cillian is one of the most prolific actors of our time with a plethora of credits to his name. To name a few, you may recognise him from 28 Days Later, The Dark Knight trilogy, Dunkirk and Oppenheimer, for which he won an Oscar, a BAFTA, a Golden Globe and an IFTA.

Sophie Rundle as Ada Thorne

Tommy's sister Ada, played by Sophie Rundle, will also feature in the film. In season six, we saw Ada step up in the family business and even involving herself in Tommy's political pursuits - something we could see explored even further in the film. Sophie was confirmed to be appearing in the film in October 2024, along with Stephen Graham (Hayden Stagg), Ned Dennehy (Charlie Strong), Packy Lee (Johnny Dogs) and Ian Peck (Curly).

Sophie is also known for her roles as Ann Walker in Gentleman Jack, Lucy in The Bletchley Circle, Vicky Budd in Bodyguard, ITV's Titanic miniseries, Call the Midwife, Happy Valley, The Nest, The Diplomat and After the Flood.

Stephen Graham as Hayden Stagg

Hayden Stagg only appeared in two episodes of Peaky Blinders season six, but he was able to make a lasting impression in just a few scenes - thanks to Stephen Graham's renowned acting prowess. It's no surprise he's been asked to return to the fray for the film, and with such an enigmatic and sporadic appearance in the series so far, he really could be taken in any direction. A union convener and dock worker in Liverpool, Hayden was found to be pilfering and selling the Shelby's opium behind their backs - but Tommy chose to trust him with a different task by the end of the series... Protecting a shipment of guns.

Stephen has a plethora of acting credits to his name, having starred in Snatch, Gangs of New York, This Is England, Boardwalk Empire, Pirates of the Caribbean, Line of Duty, Boiling Point, White House Farm, Time, Help, Matilda the Musical, A Thousand Blows and Adolescence.

Rebecca Ferguson

Hollywood star Rebecca Ferguson is a brand new face to the world of Peaky, and any information about her role in the film is being kept strictly under wraps. We don't even know her character's name! However, after on-set photos of Rebecca with long, dark hair emerged, fans on Reddit are convinced she's going to be a Romani character. Time will tell!

Rebecca may be most well-known for her role as Ilsa Faust in the Mission Impossible series opposite Tom Cruise, but she's also been in the 2014 Hercules film adaptation with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, The Girl on the Train, The Greatest Showman, Doctor Sleep, Dune and The White Queen among many others.

Barry Keoghan as Duke Shelby

Details around Barry Keoghan's character were shrouded in mystery too - that is, until a couple of weeks before the film's release. The Irish actor has had a stratospheric rise to fame in the last couple of years, and online forums speculated that he'd either portray Tommy Shelby's son Charlie or be another member of the Peaky gang. The fact he was photographed on set wearing the signature flat cap was a slightly telling sign! It was then confirmed at the end of February 2026 that he would be portraying Duke Shelby, taking over from Conrad Khan who played the character in season six.

After various roles in small films and TV shows, Barry became "one to watch" in 2017 after his stellar turn in Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk and The Killing of a Sacred Deer. Since then, he's starred in American Animals, Calm With Horses, Chernobyl, The Green Knight, Eternals, The Batman, The Banshees of Inisherin, Saltburn, Top Boy and Masters of the Air.

Tim Roth

Again, information about Tim Roth's participation in the film has been kept tightly behind production lines. The Hollywood star was announced to have been cast shortly after Rebecca Ferguson and Barry Keoghan, and chatter online suggests that fans are eyeing him up as a potential antagonist for our anti-hero, Tommy Shelby. Whether that's as a character in the gang world or more so a baddie in government remains to be seen.

Tim may be best known for his collaborations with American director Quentin Tarantino, having appeared in his films Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction among others. He's also been in The Hit, Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead, Rob Roy, The War Zone, Planet of the Apes, The Incredible Hulk, Selma, Lie to Me, Rillington Place, Tin Star and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.

Ned Dennehy as Charlie Strong

Fans of the show will have been glad to hear the news that Peaky stalwart Ned Dennehy would be returning as Charlie Strong. A brother of the Shelby family's late mother, Uncle Charlie always helped Tom with his schemes - but tried to steer his morals back to safety when they appeared to be swaying. In the final episode, Charlie was still by Tommy's side, entrusted with various responsibilities as Tom disappeared to what he thought was his death.

Ned has also appeared in the likes of Reign of Fire, Sherlock Holmes, Harry Potter, The Eagle, Jane Eyre, The Woman in Black: Angel of Death, Calm with Horses, Guns Akimbo, Dickensian, Good Omens, The Young Offenders, Outlander and Shōgun.

Ian Peck as Curly

Another fan-favourite returning to the fold is Ian Peck's Curly. Stable-hand Curly was a long-time friend and ally to the family, being cared for by Charlie due to having additional needs but deeply trusted by Tommy due to his apparent connection and understanding with horses, and his loyalty to the Shelby family.

Ian has also appeared in His Dark Materials, Father Brown, Robin Hood, Lady Chatterley's Lover, Endeavour, The Wolfman and Harry Potter, among a smattering of other TV appearances.

Packy Lee as Johnny Dogs

Yet another welcome familiar face is Packy Lee as Johnny Dogs. Having long been an ally to the family through their Romani heritage, Johnny was instrumental in pretty much every scheme the Shelby family ran throughout the series - including Tommy's last big bust up with his cousin Michael, Aunt Polly Gray's son.

Packy is best known for his role as Johnny Dogs in Peaky Blinders, but has also appeared in Blue Lights, Derry Girls, The Witcher, The Frankenstein Chronicles and Clean Break, with a few other TV titles under his belt.

Ruby Ashbourne Serkis as Agnes Shelby

Another new face to the franchise is Ruby Ashbourne Serkis, who will play the role of Agnes Shelby. As Agnes isn't a name we've come across before, we know she'll be playing a new character... But with the surname of Shelby, she's likely to be pretty integral to the plot. It's possible that she could be a child of one of the Shelby brothers - possibly John or even Arthur - or she may be a more distant relative. There's a chance she could be Polly Gray's daughter, believed to be dead, and other speculation online pegs her as the Shelby mother, appearing in a flashback or a vision.

If Ruby's name or face looks slightly familiar, it's because she comes from a famous family. Her father is Andy Serkis, best known for playing Gollum in the Lord of the Rings series and Caesar in the Planet of the Apes franchise, and her mother is Lorraine Ashbourne, who viewers may know from the likes of Alma's Not Normal and Bridgerton. Ruby herself has also starred in Cider with Rosie, National Treasure, The Letter for the King, The Serpent, Becoming Elizabeth and I, Jack Wright.

Jay Lycurgo

Jay Lycurgo is also a new actor on the scene for The Immortal Man. There hasn't been too much speculation online about what sort of character he might play - he could be part of the "new wave" of Peaky Blinders or a completely different character.

Jay already has some pretty impressive titles to his name, having appeared in I May Destroy You, War of the Worlds, Cheaters, The Batman, Titans and Generation Z.

April 2024: Show creator Steven Knight confirms the film is happening

This came after show creator Steven Knight officially confirmed that a film was on the way, with Cillian Murphy reprising his role as Tommy for the big screen. He also teased that filming was set to begin in September.

Speaking to NME, Steven not only confirmed when production was set to begin, but he even teased the film will be a "step up", with a bigger budget. With everything sorted for the upcoming movie, it's fair to say he's got us all excited by adding that Oscar-winning Cillian Murphy is "really up for it".

When asked for an update on how the upcoming Peaky Blinders film is getting on, Steven told the publication: "It’s gonna happen this September. I’m just doing the final polishes, which will continue up until the day before we start shooting. But we’re there. We’ve got everything sorted, we’ve got all the commitments we need, we are ready to go."

The show creator then added: "I think the film is gonna be a step up again, and it’s gonna be great that Peaky fans can meet in one place and watch it. The budget will be bigger, but also because we know we’re ending this chapter, we’re all going to try to do our best. Cillian Murphy is really up for it. So I can’t wait for it to start shooting.”

March 2024: Steven Knight says Cillian Murphy is on board

Speaking to Birmingham World at the premiere for his new show, This Town, in March 2024, Steven announced that Cillian would be returning. He added that filming would start in the Autumn 2024 in Birmingham.

He said: "He is definitely returning for it. We’re shooting it in September just down the road in Digbeth." Music to our ears!

October 2022: Cillian Murphy speaks out on a Peaky Blinders film

In October 2022, lead actor Cillian Murphy told Digital Spy that he would always be keen to reprise his role as Tommy Shelby, and spoke about the script: "I’ve still not read it the script but that’s the plan, the plan is to make a film and to continue the story but in the cinematic world rather than on the television.

“The television part of the story is finished. If there are more stories to tell, I’m there - I just haven’t read it yet, but it’s close apparently."

February 2022: Steven Knight is writing the film with Tommy in mind

Steven Knight spoke to Digital Spy to confirm that Tommy Shelby would be part of it. When asked if he would be part of the Peaky Blinders story beyond series six, he said: "It's impossible to say yet. But the film – yes."

January 2021: The seventh season becomes a film

The show's creator Steven Knight revealed that due to production issues caused by COVID-19, things would play out slightly differently - the series would end with season six.

However, he confirmed at that time that the story would continue with a Peaky Blinders film: "Covid changed our plans. But I can say that my plan from the beginning was to end Peaky with a movie. That is what is going to happen", Steven told Deadline.

Which existing characters will be in the Peaky Blinders film?

We already know that Tommy Shelby was the central character of the film from the get-go, but fans were keen to know whether any other familiar faces would be making their return.

We now know that reprising their roles for the film will be Stephen Graham (Hayden Stagg), Sophie Rundle (Ada Thorne), Ned Dennehy (Charlie Strong), Ian Peck (Curly) and Packy Lee (Johnny Dogs).

There's no confirmation yet on whether Paul Anderson will be returning as eldest Shelby sibling Arthur, with the actor's well-publicised personal issues - however, comments on his Instagram account seem to suggest he has told fans in person that he will be.

Steven Knight commented on bringing some of the new faces from series six into the film to Digital Spy in February 2022: "In series six we're bringing in the new generation, and they are going to be part of what happens in the film."

He has since commented: "I’m really interested in Duke, I’m really interested in Isiah and just watching a new generation come through but with the older generation still there."

As well as this, Conrad Khan, who plays Duke Shelby, has spoken out about what might come next for his character. Speaking to Digital Spy, he said: "I think he wants to remain anonymous because he doesn't want to be put in those... vulnerable situations where you're forced to do something in the name of the family.

"He's found the stables. He's with Curly and a couple of horses. I think he's quite happy with that."

As it looks like Duke is now next in line to take over from Tommy, Conrad also opened up about how Duke might get involved with the dark side of the family business: "Maybe it's not going out, and killing people… because, Duke's explained to him that he doesn't want to do that.

"Maybe the kind of darkness that Tommy sees in himself – he probably sees that in his son, Duke. Tommy's having to put all these parameters in place for when he becomes eventually incapable of leading the family in the way he used to."

However, we now know that Barry Keoghan has taken over the role of Duke Shelby from Conrad, and will be portraying Tommy's illegitimate son in the film.

Speaking to Deadline, Steven has also confirmed that the likes of Oswald Mosley will also be in the upcoming film.

Fan-favourite Tom Hardy has revealed that he'd love to return to the franchise, telling Sky News that he'd "100%" be up for appearing in the film as his character, Alfie Solomons, who was an integral character from the show's second series onwards.

He seemed to confirm his part in the film, saying: "100% Alfie will definitely make an appearance, but I don't know when," before backtracking and saying: "And I don't even know if he will, that's just me punting."

Which new characters will be in the Peaky Blinders film?

So far, we know that Mission Impossible star Rebecca Ferguson has been cast, along with Banshees of Inisherin's Barry Keoghan and Pulp Fiction legend Tim Roth as well as Jay Lycurgo - but none of their roles have been revealed yet.

Another new face is Ruby Ashbourne Serkis, and her role has been confirmed - according to IMDb, she'll be playing Agnes Shelby, although there's no news on how her character fits into the family. Real-life daughter of Lord of the Rings star Andy Serkis and Alma's Not Normal's Lorraine Ashbourne, it's safe to say that Ruby was born to be an actor!

Steven also said to Digital Spy in February 2022, discussing how important the casting process is: "There are so many people, so many great actors, that we are already, sort of, in conversation with for the film, and for whatever follows.

"But I think what we want to do is keep surprising people, and keep breaking new talent. Because it's all out there, and there is a sort of consistency – what we're doing is finding really good actors from a working-class sort of background, and telling that story. That's what we're trying to do."

What will happen in the Peaky Blinders film?

The official Netflix press site reads: 'Birmingham, 1940. Amidst the chaos of WWII, Tommy Shelby is driven back from a self-imposed exile to face his most destructive reckoning yet. With the future of the family and the country at stake, Tommy must face his own demons, and choose whether to confront his legacy, or burn it to the ground. By order of the Peaky Blinders…'

Steven also spoke about the plot line for the film: "We're going to make a film – a feature film – which will move the world on, and then once we've moved the world on into the Second World, we'll see where that takes us.

"It's now a situation where the world... You know, around the world, the Peaky world, it's got so much energy, and so much following, and such a huge fanbase, that you think: 'Well, let's just carry on.' So we do."

In another update from the show creator, he teased to Radio Times that the film will be the "same" Peaky Blinders that we know "but different" and suggested fans "expect the unexpected".

According to Deadline, Steven spoke at the Royal Television Society's London Convention in September 2024, saying: "It’s set in the Second World War and it’s really good."

Who is on the soundtrack?

The full soundtrack hasn't been released just yet - it'll be coming out on 6th March with the film - but it has been announced that Grian Chatten of Fontaines D.C has written an original song titled 'Puppet' for the soundtrack.

He spoke in an interview with Cillian Murphy about participating in the project, confessing that he and the other band members were huge fans of the TV show - and in return, Cillian is known to be an admirer of the Dublin-based Irish band.

Cillian said he and director Tom Harper were "so excited" about Fontaines D.C.'s 2024 album 'Romance', feeling it had been written for the film, with Grian adding: "It's a show all of us have been watching for a long time.

"We wanted to do something that sounded inherently Peaky. It's a songwriter's dream, really. There's a precariousness in the music, it's on a knife edge and that's where the tension comes from."

Who is directing the film?

Direction will be undertaken by Tom Harper, whose most well-known work is Wild Rose starring Jessie Buckley, The Aeronauts and series War & Peace, plus a couple of episodes of This Is England '86. He's also directed three episodes of the Peaky series, so he's not a totally new face to the franchise.
