Amandaland: Everything to know about the BBC comedy
A Christmas special and season three are in the works
Last updated 1 hour ago
Following the release of season two earlier this year, it's now been revealed a 2026 Christmas special of Motherland spin-off Amandaland is in the works.
The first series was widely praised by fans as "comedy gold", pulling in a huge 7.4 million viewers and prompting a swift renewal from the BBC for a second and third series — and there's a new face on the show for the upcoming Christmas special, in the form of Breeders actress Daisy Haggard.
What is Amandaland?
Centred around PTA mum Amanda (Lucy Punch) and the hilarious situations she finds herself in at the school gates of London, she's joined by former Motherland castmates Joanna Lumley, who plays her mother, Felicity, and Philippa Dunne as her friend, Anne.
Also in the cast is Gavin & Stacey's Samuel Anderson, Derry Girls' Siobhan McSweeney, Line of Duty's Rochenda Sandall, Ekow Quartey from Trying and Peter Serafinowicz, from The Gentlemen.
The synopsis for the first series of the show read: 'Post her divorce, Amanda has had to downsize and up sticks to South Harlesden, or as the Estate Agent calls it SoHa (definitely not the area around Wormwood Scrubs prison).
'With both Manus and Georgie now at secondary school, Amanda has to try and get her head around raising teenagers, dealing with modern motherhood horrors like teenage drinking, fake Instagram accounts and eco anxiety. Not even a woman as certain of her parenting as Amanda can deal with these nightmares alone.
'Amanda’s mother Felicity (Joanna Lumley) is constantly around, and completely in denial that she is, in fact, lonely. Theirs is a slightly unhealthy co-dependent relationship based on backhanded compliments and veiled snipes about her new home.
'After a brief spell of freedom, Anne (Philippa Dunne) is sucked back into being Amanda’s minion to help her navigate the social scene with the other parents at the children’s new school. Thank God for Anne.'
Will there be a third series of Amandaland?
Yes, a third series was announced in May 2026. At the time, co-writer and creator Holly Walsh and co-writer Laurence Rickard said of the third season: "We are thrilled to be heading back to SoHa for a third series of Amandaland and delighted the show has found the sort of audience that Amanda’s Instagram account could only dream of.
"We are already priming our keyboards to prompt AI into creating another batch of scripts and can’t wait to be reunited with our incredible cast and crew."
When does Amandaland series three start?
There's no start date for series three just yet, but we do know it's in the works.
All episodes from series one and two are available to watch back on BBC iPlayer now.
