Why does Sean Paul say "Sean Da Paul"?
Plenty of artists have an audio signature, and many fans around the world have taken Sean's exclamation of "Sean Da Paul" as it is over the years. However, it surfaced in March 2025 that he's actually NOT been saying the phrase as we've come to know it.
Explaining in a viral video - which was actually taken from the 2022 Vice documentary The Story of 'Get Busy' by Sean Paul, Sean said: "There's a famous cricketer in Trinidad, Shivnarine Chanderpaul. Everybody was like, "Chanderpaul!", and yo that name stuck and then I just started to say it on the intros.
"I met the dude Chanderpaul years later and he's like yo. But yeah big up to Shivnarine Chanderpaul."
