Love Island's Samira Mighty opens up about breast cancer scare
She's having a lump removed next week
Love Island 2018 star Samira Mighty has bravely opened up to her followers on her breast cancer scare, after she found a lump in her left boob.
Samira, who was famously cheated on by her Love Island boyfriend Frankie Foster, has revealed she's set to undergo surgery next week to remove the lump she found.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk, the 23-year-old revealed she first found the lump when she was just 19, saying, “It was really dramatic, I immediately thought I had breast cancer. You Google, Wikipedia, and think you’re going to die.
“It did play on my mind, because you’d be drying off after the shower and feel this lump and think, something is not right. Or I’d be ill and in my head I’d connect it to the lump.”
Despite being told it was nothing to worry about by doctors at the time, Samira later went back for a second opinion, following her mum's diagnosis with breast cancer in 2014.
The performer added, “I found it when I was 19 and I checked back then and they said ‘you’re young, that kind of thing happens’ and I left it. It got bigger, the doctor says it’s three centimetres now, which is quite big, and I don’t have massive boobs, so it’s not like it’s hidden.
“I’m self-conscious and if someone touches it it’s a bit tender; it’s uncomfortable when I lie on my stomach.”
Luckily for Samira, doctors have dismissed breast cancer, and instead diagnosed her as having a benign growth called fibroadenoma.
