As if we haven't been through enough Love Island-induced trauma lately, what with Josh Denzel and Kaz Crossley and Megan Barton-Hanson and Wes Nelson calling it quits, Adam Collard and Zara McDermott have now split too.

After rumours that they were 'on the rocks', Zara has now confirmed the split in a statement posted on her Instagram Story. She wrote, 'I am heartbroken to announce that Adam and I have parted ways. I love him very much and will always have a special place in my heart for him & our time spent together. I have tried so hard to be the best person I can possibly be and to make it work.

'Sometimes in life, you just aren’t enough for someone; no matter what you do for them or how much you try to be. For everyone asking if I’m ok, I don’t know that I am. But I know that soon I will be. I will be strong and prove to myself that I can get through this. Love, always, Zara.'

Despite their co-star Megan remaining hopeful the pair were still going strong in light of rumours they were 'on the rocks,' they've now broken up following Adam's all-night 'blowout' with fellow Islanders Jack Fincham and Sam Bird.

According to reports, Zara was angry after Adam enjoyed a night out with Instagram model Brittany Archer; with Jack Fincham confessing to taking drugs the same evening.

Speaking to the Mirror, a source said, "Zara wasn’t happy after discovering Adam was out with the group that included Brittany. They ended up having a big argument. Close pals have confirmed they’re at breaking point."

Adam then reportedly fled to Newcastle where he was spotted with a mystery woman as the pair unfollowed each other on Instagram.

This all comes after Adam revealed his secret to a successful Love Island relationship post-Palma last week.

Speaking to heat, he said, "The secret to our success is if you’re bothered about the person, you’re bothered. If you’re not, you’re not."

"You’ve just got to stay together and make it work. We’ve had arguments, we’ve had tiffs, we’ve had everything. We’re impulsive, we storm out on each other and stuff; but at the same time if it’s worth it you’re going to go back and be friends."
