James Corden reveals he's leaving The Late Late Show
James will leave his hosting role in 2023
News broke in America over night that British actor and talk-show host James Corden has quit his role presenting The Late Late Show, announcing he will leave next year when his latest contract runs out.
Announcing the news on the show last night (Thursday 28th April), James revealed he's signed a one-year extension which will take him to 2023, but then revealed he will leave after seven years of hosting.
He told the audience: "When I started this journey, it was always going to be just that - it was going to be a journey, an adventure. I never saw it as my final destination, and I never want this show to overstay its welcome. I always want to love making it.
"I really think in a year from now that will be a good time to move on to see what else is out there. We all determined to make this the best year we have ever had.
"We are going to go out with a bang … they'll be tears, so many tears, 'cause this has been the hardest decision I've ever had to make."
The news broke moments before James hosted the latest episode, with the Gavin & Stacey writer speaking to Deadline about his tough decision to leave in Summer 2023.
He told the publication: “It’s been it’s a really hard decision to leave because I’m so immensely proud of the show. I’m thrilled to be extending for a year. I always thought I’d do it for five years and then leave, and then I stayed on. I’ve really been thinking about it for a long time, thinking whether there might be one more adventure.”

James has become famed for viral segments on The Late Late Show, such as Carpool Karaoke, Drop the Mic, Spill Your Guts and Crosswalk Musical, as well as interviewing a whole host of A-list celebs during his time on the show.
Although rumours have been rife in recent years that James would return to the UK, with fans hoping he would create a new series of Gavin & Stacey, the comedian has admitted to Deadline he doesn't actually know what his plan is.
Speaking about the potential of a return to the UK, James said: “It’s something we think about and we talk about a lot, but we haven’t really made a decision on that yet.
"That’s the life side of things which we’ll figure out. I love living here. I love everything it’s given. My family and I have never taken this incredible adventure for granted. Every day I drive down Sunset to work and I just think I’m from High Wycombe.”
As James has signed a one-year contract extension, he will leave The Late Late Show in Summer 2023.
