New trailer released for The Rig series 2 with Martin Compston
It will arrive in January 2025
Believe it or not it's been nearly two years since supernatural drama The Rig, starring Scottish actor Martin Compston and Iain Glen, first aired on Prime Video. Now, as we edge closer to the start of 2025, bosses have confirmed the show will return for a second series.
As bosses release the first look at series two, and tease the all-important start date, here's everything you need to know about the Prime Video series.
What is The Rig?
Filmed exclusively in Scotland, series one of The Rig follows a group of oil rig workers from the Kishorn Bravo oil rig in the choppy waters of the North Sea.
Just moments before the crew are scheduled to fly back to the mainland, they are cut off from all communication with the outside world as a mysterious and all-enveloping fog rolls through.
Vigil star Martin Compston plays the role of Fulmer Hamilton and Mark Bonnar as Alwyn Evans in series one.
Is there a second series?
Yes! Shortly after series one aired, bosses confirmed the show had been renewed for a second series.
Prime Video say of the upcoming second series: 'Helicopters have taken the surviving crew of the Kinloch Bravo to a new secret offshore facility called the Stac, nestled deep in the extraordinary and deadly landscapes of the Arctic Circle.
'Here, the trapped crew must deal with the emotional and physical fallout of the devastating tsunami that destroyed the Bravo, and contend with swirling conspiracies, corporate conflicts, and new threats from the dark depths of the world’s ocean. The second series will continue exploring global themes - weaving together the past, present, and future of the planet while taking the viewer to spectacular environments and drawing on the frontiers of cutting edge ocean technology - including the controversial world of deep sea mining.
'David Macpherson has created a new story that delivers epic thrills and gripping action for a compelling cast of characters, both returning and new'.
