Jeremy Clarkson almost ‘loses leg’ at his farm

Broadcaster-turned-farmer Jeremy Clarkson has revealed that he nearly lost his leg in an accident on his farm.
Jeremy has his own Amazon Prime series, Clarkson’s Farm, all about his adventure into farming. The show sees him grow crops, look after livestock and tackle the adverse weather conditions on his farm in the Cotswolds. The series proved hugely popular with the audience and became the streaming platform's highest-ever rated show.
The former Top Gear presenter bought the farm in 2008 but when he retired in 2019 he decided to see if he could run it himself.
He has an incredible team to help him on the farm including tractor driver and all-round helper Kaleb, stone wall expert Gerald, advisor 'Cheerful' Charlie and Jeremy's partner and farm shop keeper Lisa.
However, life on the farm isn’t all showbiz, as Jeremy recently escaped losing his leg in a piece of machinery.
Speaking on the Jonathan Ross show about his new book, Diddly Squat: A Year On The Farm, he admitted that there’s so much danger involved in running a farm and there’s “more accidents in farming than all the other industries put together”.
He said: “I got this thing called a telehandler, it’s like a JCB thing. I thought ‘I’ll just use its front to push the post in.'
“It got halfway into the ground and the fence was leaning on it and it flicked back. How it didn’t take my leg off… I didn’t walk properly for a week. This was a quarter of a tonne of fence post.”
He also revealed how filming the show came about, confessing: “It was an accident. I was contractually obliged – I had to make a programme on my own. I thought ‘I’m slightly bored of Terminal 5. I’ll film at home on the farm.’
“I thought what a lovely programme it would be to try and learn to be a farmer. I genuinely love it out there.”
Back in July, Jeremy confirmed his popular show Clarkson's Farm will return for a second series.
Despite previously describing the venture as an "expensive failure", Jeremy will be back for a second series along with fan favourites tractor driver Kaleb, stone wall expert Gerald, advisor Charlie and Jeremy's partner and farm shop keeper Lisa.
In a video posted on his Instagram, Jeremy said: "There will be a second series of Clarkson's Farm. Following the success of the first series, I am delighted to say there will be a second series of Clarkson's farm."
