Call The Midwife gets release date as series 12 filming begins

Following the end of series 11 back in February, it looks like fans of BBC drama Call The Midwife won't have to wait too long for the next instalment, as filming has officially started!
The official Instagram account for the show made the exciting announcement, sharing a behind-the-scenes photo from filming, whilst revealing the brand new series will return in 2023, as well as Christmas special this December!

Bosses also confirmed that actress Helen George, who plays Nurse Trixie Franklin, is also set to return more prominently for series 12, after the 39-year-old was absent for most of the last series on maternity leave.
Sharing a photo of Helen, bosses wrote: 'Trixie's back!! Helen George makes her return to Call the Midwife Series 12 filming ❤️❤️❤️
'Our first week of filming the brand new Series 12 involves both day and night shooting - and guess who made a welcome return to Nonnatus house last night for her first scene ...

'While Helen has been away she's had a little 'midwife calling' of her own to do, as she is now the proud mother of two! Her gorgeous new daughter, Lark, was born late last year, and Helen is now ready to get back into the saddle of her bicycle to minister to the women of Poplar once more!
'We are thrilled to have her back, and just can't wait to show you the next developments in Trixie's journey...' (sic)

Actress Megan Cusack, who plays the role of Nurse Nancy Corrigan on the hit show, spoke to the Radio Times last month to reveal filming for series 12 would start very soon!
She told the publication: "It’s coming very soon. So just really excited to get together with everyone again because everyone’s so lovely. It’s like a family. The crew are great. It’s great crack.
“It’s that weird time in between where you’re like, ‘I’d actually just like to be with everyone still!'"
Although nothing has been confirmed about the plot for series 12, it's understood the new series will follow Nurse Shelagh Turner as she helps her husband Dr Patrick Turner in his recovery from that tragic train crash.
No official date has been given for series 12 just yet, but we do now know the Christmas special will air in December, with series 12 landing in 2023.
