It's been a massive 30 years since the Spice Girls released their debut hit 'Wannabe', and their debut album 'Spice'. To celebrate this milestone, The Royal Mint have announced a commemorative coin, which has been officially approved by the Spice Girls.

The special £5 coin celebrates the best-selling female group of all time, who enjoyed a huge Number 1 with the debut hit. 'Wannabe', which was released in June 1996, went to Number 1 in 37 countries. The group also led the Girl Power phenomenon which inspired millions around the world.

The new coin design is part of The Royal Mint’s Music Legends collection, which has previously included Freddie Mercury, Elton John, David Bowie, George Michael, Shirley Bassey and Paul McCartney.

In a first for this collection of coins, fans can choose their favourite band member, with five unique packaging designs available, each with a different member of the group, Baby Spice (Emma Bunton), Ginger Spice (Geri Horner), Posh Spice (Victoria Beckham), Scary Spice (Mel B) and Sporty Spice (Melanie C).

Speaking about the special coin, the Spice Girls said: "It's a huge honour for us to be celebrated by The Royal Mint and follow in the footsteps of some true music icons. 2026 marks a special year for us as we celebrate the 30th anniversary of our debut single and album. We could never have imagined that we would be recognised in this way - the first female group to be given their very own coin...what a moment for Girl Power!"

How to buy the coin

You can buy the coin from The Royal Mint. It is available from the official website starting at £18.50 for the Brilliant Uncirculated edition. Various versions of the coin are available including a limited edition silver proof and 2oz gold proof coin, which is selling for a huge £10,535.
