Strictly Come Dancing professional Amy Dowden announced her cancer diagnosis back in May, sharing a defiant message with her fans, followed by a second cancer diagnosis in July.

Now, as the dancer turned 33-years-old on 10th August, she has shared an emotional message with her fans.

Celebrating her birthday with her twin sister Becky, Amy told her fans: 'Happy birthday to my beautiful, kind, talented twin! @becky_dowden 💖💖💖💖Hope your day is as lovely as you and for sure next year we are making up for it! Love you bex and thank you for everything you always do for me.

'I wasn’t looking forward to this birthday. At the moment any milestone or event is a bigger reminder and hurts. Im far from what I should and normally doing, in the rehearsal room with my strictly family. But all your wishes this morning have certainly cheered me up. This year my birthday wish is for all to take the time to check themselves! @coppafeelpeople have so many useful resources 🙏💖! Doesn’t take long! That’s my birthday wish! Thank you so much again for all the love and support it really does help and mean so much to me. Welsh love Amy x 💖💖💖💖 #checkyourlemons'. (sic)

Since posting her message, Amy has been getting hundreds of messages of support. One fan wrote: 'Happy Birthday to the both of you. Amy stay positive and be strong when you can and you’ll smash this. From someone who was in the same position as you and now I’m a 15 yr survivor! xx ❤️'. (sic)

Another fan wrote: 'Happy Birthday to @amy_dowden and @becky_dowden 2 inspirational ladies just there ❤️'. (sic)

Her dad also wrote: 'Happy birthday to our beautiful talented talented daughters Amy and Rebecca xxx', and Fleur East wrote: 'Happy birthday to you both!!!🙌❤️❤️❤️❤️'.

Fellow Strictly pro Karen Hauer wrote: 'Happy birthday beautiful ❤️'.

Since announcing she had breast cancer back in May, Amy has been very open with her diagnosis, and intention to return to Strictly in some form when it starts later this year. In June Amy began her cancer treatment, sharing a photo from her hospital bed, then in July, she told fans of a second cancer diagnosis.

Meanwhile, back on the dancefloor, Strictly have revealed all of this year's contestants.
